Mock-up and Mold

Click on each photo for descriptions

We mocked up all the furniture in my house, and spent a few days rearranging things until they felt just right. Next we made cardboard windows and determined size and placement! Everything is so exciting.... until I discovered a black and white fuzzy mold coating the majority of the walls. Inside and out. It turns out I didn't have enough ventilation, and with the moisture around here it created the perfect environment for mold to thrive.

So, I made a trip the hardware store today, coming away with respirators, neoprene gloves, spray bottles and bleach. The surprises never end, and we've got our work cut out for us!

Off to work,

Celina

  1. That is so funny! I have to admit that we did the same thing.. when you're talking about scale of necessities and furniture, the mock up method really helps. :) Sorry to read about the mold yet glad you caught it early in the process, so you can correct it.

    1. Yes, its so worth it to try out the layout before you make it permanent : D

  2. Since so many of the tiny house 'shells' are similar, it is the interiors that interest me - how they have been 'engineered,' to see if (I think) they would work well. Could you sketch out the interior layout you have come up with and post that? Otherwise, I'm loving this, especially the Dutch gambrel roofline, giving so much more room to the loft.

    1. Deb,

I will get a picture up as soon as possible! But things keep changing and evolving so nothing is ever set in stone. I like interiors also, they are so much fun.

  3. It's so great that you've mocked everything up Celina-sized! I'm looking forward to doing the same thing myself someday!

  4. Found your site on drew's list. My oldest daughter wants to build one of these so they can move it with them when they go somewhere. I found your outside wood stove idea interesting. Not very portable but and interesting idea for someone building a stationary house. I too did a mock up of my kitchen last time I built a house. It's the only way to go.
